sleeplethon

right now i look like i've just returned from a round trip from the bowels of the amazon jungle. you just have to see it to believe it. and i feel like it too. could barely open my eyelids on the way to work this morning. slept at 315, woke up at 7. this is what happens when you do stuff like this. not really smart.

tomorrowpeople

there will be a big night ride in melaka this 26th october. the trail runs for 45km and it'll be in the dark. since its out of town, planning to take the whole shebang with me for a short holiday, whilst i manouvre my butt through jungle trails over hills, and single tracks. i have about a month to train for this one, and i really do need to train. my main problem up till now, is endurance. i suck at endurance. and i suck at hill climbing. so what really is my plus point in all this? my love for pain? maybe.

last night appeared to be the beginning of some potential problem. the firecracker kids who plays loud explosive firecrackers have taken to riding their motorbikes up and down the street. last week i approached them three times to stop playing. they never did. which led me to calling the cops on them for three consecutive days. so the firecracker kids started to alter their timeslots from 930pm to 11pm, to 930pm to 950pm. and now, since they know they've gotten a rise from me (i shouted at them during the last point of contact that i've called the cops and that they're on their way) they're pushing the envelope by riding up and down the street. had a chat with a neighbour and he said he'd call the cops too, to help push the case further up their chain of priorities. i'm thinking of walking up to their parked bikes, taking down the numbers, then informing the security guards positioned around the hood, to not let these guys in, and then taking the said numbers to the cops so that it'd be easier for them to identify these trouble makers. other option is gather the neighbours and have a nice chat with them. but gathering people for this is not that easy. my immediate neighbour seems game, but i have to tell him not to bring the hockey stick. it doesnt work to be on the offensive. better the defensive. the cops will tell the difference at the end of the day, i hope.

treetops

the weekend took my breath away; both saturday and sunday was filled with drives down to the city, getting mixed up in crowds, waiting in line, paying for stuff, rushing about and generally exhausting myself out. right now this morning i'm winded. i'm just about tired of everything and what i need is to be left alone. at least for half the day. i need to get away far from everyone for a bit before i can feel normal again. of course normal is relative to what each one of us feels, but what they hey, i just need some time out.

stephen king's 'just after sunset' from what i've read so far, is good. its like he's running on his legs again the way he used to when he was much younger. and meaner. stephen king's writing id has an evil streak in it, and its this evil streak that has been instrumental in coming up with some many out-of-the-box/kick-you-in-the-face freshness that has made him a household name and the most successful author to date. the man is an original sucker-puncher who will sucker-punch you when you least expect it. and now, his new collection is drawing back the old king we've all known and loved all these years. his short stories are like sinful indulgences in which we treat ourselves with once in a while, and the thing is, we later discover that these candies are really full of nutrients.

hootangtoop

keni and gang have been night riding at FRIM for the past 2 weeks, and they're planning for a 3rd ride tomorrow night. i've two minds on this: i want to go as it sounds thrilling and exciting (cycling in complete darkness in the middle of a jungle with only your bike lamp to light 3 feet in front of you); i dont want to hurt myself.

even then, i still want to go as i get easily influenced by friends of tales of adventure. so i should go. only tomorrow night i cant as i'm having dinner with the folks ...

so, what have i been up to lately? it has been 2 months since i last scribbled stuff here. i'll list them down for my ease of drafting:

a. am reading - stephen king's new collection of short stories: just after sunset / robert b parker's spenser thriller: cold services

b. saw - the premier of GI Joe and partially enjoyed it (the scarlett part) / state of play - the russel crowe / ben affleck journalistic actioneer which was gripping

c. biking - at the excellent 26th july hash at this cross country trail comprising of rubber and palm oil estate and several farms / the Dream Trail at FRIM, which honestly was dream-like.

d. birthdays - baby z turns 3. she honestly believes she's a princess. even if it means thumping people to convince them.

e. fasting - been almost a month now and yes, some people have commented on my weight loss although i dont feel thin, or thinner. must be the trick of light or mirrors or something ...

thats about it, more or less.

bears

i'm sorry, but i will have to blog about my sunday biking expeditions. i seem to be going on and on about this dont i? its only because i like it :)

went to the forest reserve again on sunday. rode up rover track then rolled down to harimau hill, then rolled up to steroid hill area, then rolled down to the foot of the murderous killer hill. at the bottom of the hill on the waste tank, settled down to catch my breath as other bikers converged. i took out my sneakers bar, ate that, mixed my rehydration salts with my water bottle, drank that, took off my helmet, took in some air and contemplated going up steroid hill. eventually i decided not to, but to explore the trail leading to the sg buloh hospital instead. so i picked up my steed, and pushed off up the slope then down into the jungle trail.

and it was a great trail. wide and narrow at some parts, steep and steady at others, with a shaded canopy of trees all the way. halfway through you can find a view of a valley which cuts right across the horizon, plunging right in the middle of the jungle. its quite spectacular as you are compelled to imagine what it would be like to actually jump down the valley with your bike and then peddle up the steep slopes which runs really far off into the distance. but of course, that would be suicidal and its a sharp drop into the valley. so i biked on and came out of the trail onto some tarmac, which was the road leading to small village with a small farm. it was only after this village that i came across various nursery plants on the left and right side of the road. i suppose this was the place my parents used to go to buy plants for the house, and at one time, a bonzai plant as well. so i rode on, stopped a moment to let a juggernaut of a truck to go rumbling by, giving me the ample time of 2 seconds to jump of my bike before i got the smacking of a lifetime. so i rode on until i reached the two facing hospitals of sungai buloh. on the left side was the new, huge, gleaming hospital with friendly colours, and on my right, was the small, rustic facility which doubles as a hospital AND a leper colony. i stopped a moment to catch my breath before turning around to head back to the trails. i just couldnt afford the time.
